We somehow got to Bali earlier than our itenerary told us we would... but, I'm not complaining, because it was still almost 23 hours of flying, not counting time between transfers. By the time we got here, I had thrown up in an airport once, and spilled pineapple juice all over Robyn and I. I was ready to go to sleep.
Not, of course, before we got screwed over by the airport porters. I had told them that we did not need any help with our luggage, but Robyn was half asleep, and engaged them in conversation, which gave them the go ahead to grab our luggage, despite my protests, which resulted in them demanding exorbitant sums of money on the other side of the customs checkpoint. Robyn started handing over all of our money before I yelled that that was enough, and they took off.
We woke up in time for our first Balinese breakfast, which consisted of watermelon, papaya, fried noodles, fried chicken, fried rice, toasy, and croissants. That's basically what all of the breakfasts have consisted of so far. The food has been really good, though!
Our first day consisted mainly of napping, and spending time in the pool. Day two we walked to the beach, and discovered how truly terrifying Balinese sidewalks are (five foot deep ditches covered with precariously placed concrete slabs). We also discovered that it is damn near impossible for pedestrians to cross the street, and have decided that cabbing might be the way to go about getting around here.
Today we woke up super early, and headed to Tanah Lot right after breakfast. It was so beautiful, and totally worth the drive! We even found a taxi driver that drove us there, waited for us, and drove us back for a pretty reasonable fee.
The roads here are crazy... lines are only a suggestion, and there's a million mopeds with two or more people crammed on, stuffed into every lane. I saw a moped with FIVE people on it today...
Well, we're off to enjoy some time in the pool!
Toodles, lovelies!
