robyn + tara

So, the tale of Robyn and Tara, you say...

I met Robyn online, through OkCupid.  And, to be honest, I was starting to lose hope in the whole process.  I had met several guys through the site, and most of them were a bust.  They were the typical guy just looking to get laid.  Then this guy with a dark and kinda blurry picture messages me, and, for some reason, I thought "oh, why not?" and messaged him back.

We met for the first time at a little cafe in Edmonton, called block 1912, on December 20, 2011.  I was super nervous, and thoughts about "what if i have nothing to say??" kept running through my mind.  And, in true Robyn style, he showed up with one of those Edible Arrangements bouquets of fruit.

We talked for hours, without realizing how long we had been in the cafe for.  Everything just felt so natural with him, it was awesome.  He drove me home that night, and a little while later he e-mailed me, telling me that if I was game for it, he would like us both to shut down our OkCupid accounts and focus on just each other.

OF COURSE I WAS GAME FOR IT!

Things just kind of went from there.  He took me on dates to the art gallery and the movies, took me out for fancy lunches and dinners, and we talked and texted all of the time.  Like I said, things with him were just natural.

I pretty much moved in with him, a couple months after we started dating, and officially moved in with him at the beginning of May.  We started talking about weddings, and where we would like to get married, and we both wanted a small wedding in the Japanese garden in the Devonian Botanic Gardens.  It was fate.  We got right to emailing people to check what the wait list for our dream wedding would be, and they had the perfect date available still... May 18th at 4 pm.  We booked it, without even being engaged yet!

On May fifth, he took me to the Telus World of Science on a date, and then we went for dinner at the Hotel Macdonald, one of our favourite date destinations.  It was a nice day out, so we went for a stroll on the patio, overlooking the city, and that's where he popped the question!

I was ecstatic!  I knew he was going to do it before our wedding date arrived, but i had no idea when.  it was the perfect moment, and I was flooded with emotion.  I was so happy to be engaged to my best friend.

Since then, it's been a whirlwind of events.  Planning out our wedding, getting all of the details ready, making sure everything was lined up.  But it hasn't been stressful... I think because he's the most honest, understanding, trusting, and supportive man that I could ask for.

I can't wait to see what our life together holds for us.

  3. Damn fine love story. The best part was when you said you're engaged with your BEST FRIEND. That's what I believe too - you're lover should be your best friend. I just don't get people who have boyfriends or girlfriends but still have best friends. I just don't get the logic. Anyway, congratulations! Just a little more than a week before the big day!
