Four days from now, I will be on my way to Edmonton International Airport, then on an hour and a half flight to Vancouver International Airport, then sitting in said airport for five hours, then on an eleven and a half hour flight to Incheon International Airport (at which point I will have to wrangle my way through customs), then on a forty five minute drive to Kimpo Airport, then on an hour and a half flight to Yeosu Airport, and eventually on a drive to my brand new mystery apartment. I will be in transit from 6:20 am on February 14 (Yes, Valentine's Day...) until about 9 pm on February 15. I have never been in an airplane for longer than an hour and a half at one time! Yay, window seats, that's all I have to say.
The panic of the last week is slowly waning, and now the franticness of trying to get everything organized for take off is beginning to set in. What a week. Really. If anyone would ever have trouble getting a work visa, of course it would be me. Needless to say, we are running out of time, and if I want to have a passport in order to leave the country, we have had to arrange alternate means of attaining my E-2 Visa. I will officially be going to Korea as a tourist—Canadians can enter South Korea visa free for 90 days—so that I will be able to attend the orientation. While I am in orientation, all of my visa documents will be set up and organized, and once orientation is done, I will be flown to Japan, where I will go to the Korean Consulate (Japan because it is the closest democratic country). I will give them my visa documents, spend the night in Japan (oh woe is me, a free trip to Japan... yeah right!), pick up my visa the next day, and then legally be allowed to teach. It sounds sketchy, but I have been assured that it is entirely legal and common to do it this way. Here’s hoping...
So, now that the visa is slowly being arranged, I have to start packing. Joy of joys. I despise packing... really, truly despise it. If only I had the money to buy all new things in Korea, haha. Sunday is coming up so fast, but I think I am more excited than nervous. I find it simply amazing that I am even able to sleep at night. The next few days are going to be very busy, but very exciting... I expect the inability to sleep due to excitement and nervousness will be setting in very soon!
