I started writing this on Saturday, got distracted by things, and have begun re-writing it nowwww. Sorry, guys. Basically, I woke up with some sort of deathly illness the morning after I started writing, so, I'm back on the saddle now. On the saddle? In the saddle? Is that even an expression?
Last week was allllll kinds of frustrating.
On Tuesday, I went to pick off the 200 pictures I had gotten printed off at Walmart. I spent four hours the night before, uploading and cropping and getting each one perfect. My sister took me to pick them up, I didn't bother looking at them, because I'm a stupid, and then, when I got home, they were all wayyyy too dark. I was pissed!
So, my sister drove me to another Walmart, to go get them fixed, and their photo lab was closed two hours early for some odd reason, so then we drove to ANOTHER Walmart, and their photo lab was closed by the time we got there. So, we gave up for a few days.
On Friday, I finally got to go to the photo lab, and they basically told me that there was nothing that they could do about it, that I would have to stand in front of their machine for four hours and upload and crop and edit each picture individually, again.
Garbage.
I was so not impressed, I told them to just give me my money back, and they told me to go back to the first store that I had gone to... after I had already wasted hours and hours and hours and hours trying to get this resolved in the first place.
In the end, I ended up demanding to speak to the manager, because I was tired of dealing with the Walmart bullshit, and they eventually refunded me for the pictures. Now, I'm going to take them somewhere else to get them done.
Stupid Walmart.
I also had a bunch of crazy customers last week, too. I've noticed that since ending things with Rick, I refuse to take crap from anyone anymore... maybe it's only a matter of time before I get fired... haha.
Basically, as soon as anyone starts acting rude, or starts pulling any sort of bullshit, my nice, smiley, helpful demeanor disappears, and is replaced by someone who is bitchy, no nonsense, and ready to yell at you at any second.
Also, if you use "let me speak to your manager!" as some sort of threat, I will gladly get my manager, because I don't give a crap.
The final straw is people calling me stupid. I've had a few people call me stupid, one last week, and one today, and, as soon as that happens, don't expect me to help you at all anymore... or, if you come in again in the future. I actually told a guy today that I wasn't going to help him anymore, and then yelled down the aisle at him that he was incredibly rude.
Seriously, no nonsense.
I do really enjoy my job for the most part, though. I like mixing the paint and helping people, and the customers are usually pretty good.
Some are creepy,though.
As anyone who has bought paint at a Home Depot knows, you get a paint stick with every can that you buy. Some woman actually ran her paint stick down my arm the other day, over my tattoos, as she complimented them.
Asking someone about their tattoos is one thing, but when you move towards physical contact, it becomes really awkward.
Ask me, whatever, I don't care, I've come to expect it... but don't grab my arm and twist it to see what it says, don't touch my tattoos, don't jab me with friggin' paint sticks! Seriously! If I like your glasses, or your hair cut, or your shirt, I don't grab hold of them! So, don't grab hold of my tattoos! Just because I have tattoos and piercings, doesn't mean that all social boundaries are void.
We had our Easter dinner on Sunday, last weekend, because we're not sure when my mom will have to go in for surgery. It was super yummy. My mom made ham and Caesar salad and pedaheh in cream. Oooh! And Brussel sprouts! Friggin' love Brussel sprouts.
I think I am going to attempt to dye my hair more purple tonight. I worry that I will dye the rest of myself purple as well, again. Last time I put the purple in, my whole body turned grape-y. It was not enjoyable. I'm using a different brand, though, so, maybe that makes a difference. Here's hoping!
I went to see Video Games Live, on Monday. It was really cool! I didn't know a lot of the games, but that wasn't such a huge deal, I mostly enjoyed the fact that it was performed by the symphony orchestra.
Unfortunately, I accidentally left my keys at work on my way to the concert.
Effity eff.
I had no idea what to do.
Luckily! I was reminded that we have a night crew at our store, and, that, if I called them and asked nicely, they would probably let me in to grab my keys.
Thankfully, they did... though, reluctantly.
Other than having the flu for a few days, this week has been exponentially better than last week. Thank goodness.
Anywhoodles, I should make some dinner, and read some more of my book. Toodles, lovelies! <3
P.S. You guys should help me think of a name for my new Beta fish that I bought yesterday. He's pink with dark red fins, if that helps!

o hai...
Okay, so, I am back in the city! I moved into my little apartment... and I MEAN little, I think I only have 160 square feet... last Saturday. I am almost all unpacked. I hate unpacking as much as I hate packing, so, it's taking some time. I have Today and Tuesday off, so, I'll get the rest of it done, then. Hopefully.
I'll give you guys a tour of my tiny little place after it's all set up. And, by tour, I mean that I will stand in the middle of my apartment with my laptop, and spin around with my webcam recording the whole ordeal. It's really quite tiny. I have my own kitchen, though. That's all that matters. I have to share a bathroom with one other girl.
Let's see... what has been going on...
I dyed my hair purple:
You can kiiiind of tell from this picture. It's like a deep plumy purple. I like it, it looks super bright purple in sunlight. Please excuse my giant nose in the photo.
I've come to realize how flippin' ginormous my nose is. Seriously, it takes up that whole photo. How have I never noticed the bulbousity of my nose before? Also, yes, bulbousity, I'm making that a word.
I like to make up my own words, like, barfity. I love to say barfity, people question the legitimacy of this word all of the time. It really is a great all purpose word! How was your day? Barfity. We went skiing! Barfity. I really love Ke$ha! Barfity. What do you think of this paint colour? Barfity.
Ohhh, if only I could tell the customers that I think their colour choices are barfity.
I started work last Wednesday, it's been going really well. I missed the paint department more than I thought I did, and I didn't have to do any terrible training for paints, which is awesome... because home Depot training is TERRIBLE.
Unfortunately, I did have to do SOME training. They're training me as a back-up cashier, which is barfity.
Seriously, I hate dealing with cash. I am so glad I only had to do two days of training for it.
The funny thing about returning is that I realize how much the people I work with actually missed me. There's a lot of new people that I'm getting to know, but a lot of the employees that were there when I left recognize me and are glad to see me back. One of the guys that trained me apparently got so excited, that when we were in the department, he turned to me and sighed and shouted out: "I'm so glad that you're back, it's like having a birthday in April!"
I originally started out at the HD I'm at now, but I had to transfer to another one because of my ex, Rick. Basically, he worked at the same HD as me, and when we would break up, he would pretty much stalk me... he would watch my every move and stare at me. It was really creepy and stressful. And, after I had to call the police on him, it got even more stressful and hard to deal with, so I asked to transfer.
Unfortunately, because of this, there was a mark on my record, saying that I had issues with another employee. The HR manager asked the guys I worked with before about it, I guess, because the note didn't say that it was an issue of a personal nature, and they were considering possibly not hiring me because of it. Luckily, the guys I worked with that it was psycho Rick, and not me, that was the problem.
Anyway, they re-hired me, all is well and good in life.
Other than the cash training, I've really actually been enjoying my time at work. The weirdos are already coming out of the woodworks, though.
Let me just preface this by saying that I have gotten used to the sort of homogeneous fashion sense in Korea. People all pretty much dress very similar there. I forgot that this was not the case in Canada.
I think on my second day back in the city, my sister and I went to the Futureshop by her house to kill some time. As we were walking in, a person came out who had a highly stylized black and hot pink haircut which was kind of cool... but then, a full on Tom Selleck mustache, while wearing a super tight women's yoga jacket, fully equipped with boobs, and super tight yoga pants, fully equipped with man candy. Seriously, I understand being a dude and wanting to be a woman, but, really, choose either the super thick mustache and fully outlined man candy, or the boobs.
Related to this, I was walking out of the LRT station platform to catch my bus to work the other day, and, as I was walking out the doors, I was greeted by an older man, with a ponytail and a baseball cap, wearing a tight women's workout jacket, and skin tight women's capri yoga pants, with no underwear... seriously guys, I could see EVERYTHING. It was AWFUL. It was like two golf balls and a cocktail weenie. Not the best way to start one's day, that's for sure.
I've noticed that, when working cash, customers are more likely to treat you like crap. I had one customer come through my till, and pay with a gift card. After I put it through, he told me I needed to write the remaining balance for him on the card, then he demanded that I do it in Sharpie, which, luckily I had one, then he demanded that I write the letters really huge. All of this would have been fine, if it weren't for his attitude. He had a really effing bad attitude. He was super rude! And, he started going off about how he always has to explain to the cashiers how to do their job, and that he feels like he has to "explain everything really slowly for you people." Eff. that. shit. "You people"?! What the eff is that supposed to mean? I graduated third in my class in high school, and I have a bloody university degree, I taught English overseas for a year, and I'm returning to university for a second degree in September. You people?! Fuck you, buddy, I'm probably smarter than you are.
Thank goodness I only had to do that for two days.
One of my former professors came into my department, looking to refinish his kitchen cabinets. They were stained a darker golden colour, and he wanted to make them lighter, so I was explaining to him how to do it. As much as I recognized him, I could tell that he didn't remember me. I knew this by the fact that he was hitting on me the entire time I was explaining to him how to refinish his cabinets, and by the fact that he asked me what grade I was in. Firstly, if you're going to hit on me while i'm explaining shit to you, at least pay attention to what i'm saying. Secondly, why are you hitting on me if you think I'm still in high school, that is creepy and weird. I spent over half an hour, explaining to him over and over, what he needed to do. The sad thing is, he didn't want to do anything because it involved effort and work, and there was no magical solution to his problem. It's sad when you realize how lazy your professors are. I gave him a bunch of colour samples, and he told me he was going to take them home and look at them, and then, I thought he left.
Not so.
I walked down the aisle later, and saw him standing with his back to me, doing something. I walked over to find out if he needed anymore help, and all I could smell was varnish. He was opening the friggin' cans of varnish with his car keys, sticking paint sticks in them, tossing the paint sticks into the bay, and then putting the opened cans of varnish back on the shelves. I was FURIOUS! That shit is OIL based, it makes a huge ass mess, and if someone hit one of the cans, they could spill it everywhere!
I had to chastise one of my university professors in the middle of the Home Depot.
Seriously.
I never thought they day would come when I would have to do that, like he was an 8 year old.
Oi.
I love when little kids come into the department, because I get to joke around with them, and they get so excited when I show them how to make paint. I let a little boy use the mallet yesterday to put the lid on a can of paint, and he was so excited, and I teach them about primary and secondary colours, and give them stickers, and they give me high fives. Looove it! I love kids, they're so cute, and they get excited about everything so easily! I think the parents like the fact that I keep their kids entertained while they're doing their paint thing, too.
One of my customers yesterday asked me for a deal on a can of paint that he was buying, because it was one of our more expensive lines of paint, so, when he asked me, I yelled out "heck yes you can, you can have a high five!" I then told him it was a good deal, because not everyone gets high fives, so they're very valuable. I don't think he thought it was as funny as I thought it was.
Anywhooodles, that's about all for now. I have high speed, now, so it shall be a lot easier to look at blogs and get caught up and to comment on your guys' comments, again. I missed you all!

magic...
So, I was going to call this entry "magic" when I was under the impression that I could write a blog entry on my new cell phone.
Turns out I was wrong!
Basically, every time I tried to open Blogger, my phone decided to restart.
DAMN YOU!
So, I have reluctantly decided to brave the dial up, and, here I am, twenty minutes later, and the page has loaded enough that I can write an entry.
REJOICE!
I haven't really been up to much, truth be told. I've been attempting to acquire a job so that I can get myself an apartment and move into Edmonton by the start of April. Basically, if I spend two months out in the country, I'm going to lose my mind.
I love my parents and all, and, really, the farm is a great place to come to to relax and get away from the city, but... yeah, I'm bored.
I'm also really apologetic for not writing more, but, dial up is slowly making me lose my mind. So is having to balance in insane yoga-like poses in order to get cell phone reception.
Yes, we are really THAT isolated.
Actually, the farm is in a valley, and the cell phone tower wave thingers that give one cell phone reception don't actually reach here. This is also why we have the dial up conundrum.
Honestly, the lack of high speed is not for lack of trying... it's due to lack of technology. I think Telus is planning on trying to roll out the proper fibre optic lines out here sometime within the next like... ten years, though!
It should be noted that I use the term "farm" loosely. We don't really have a farm, we have ten acres. A farmer that lives by us does get some bails out of it each year, and we have two dogs, some farm cats (that hate people), and a bird. Oooooooooh, farmy!
Someone on TV just said fisting, and now they're talking about eating cremains... I kind of want to watch Six Feet Under, now.
The great news, is that I technically have a job, the paperwork just has to be completed.
I reapplied for my job in the paint department in a Home Depot in the city. I know, I know... really?! Home Depot?! Seriously, though, I frickin' loved that job. I love working with paint!
The interview was just a formality, they had to fill out that paper work, and, they still have to call my reference, but, they told me that I have the job. Now, if only they would get their butts in gear, and call me in to fill out the final paperwork... the cute little apartment that I found needs me to have a confirmed job before I can apply for it. And, I really want that little apartment! I'm worried that, if I don't hand in the application soon, it's going to be gone. Actually, I'm worried that it's already gone. I really hope not... the landlady liked me, but, business is business.
I compiled all of Rick's stuff, put it in a box, and my mom drove me into the city today to drop it off. I just left it on his doorstep. I didn't want to deal with his family or even him, if he was in there. I have better things to do. I'm assuming I'm going to see some dumbass e-mail in my future, though. I really hope not. A lot of it was crap that he bought me, stuff I kept from the things we did, as well as the supposed "engagement ring" he bought to try to guilt me into staying with him. I like to call it the "Big Box O' Lies!"
One thing that I enjoy about moving back to Canada is that I know when concerts are happening. For example, I have recently purchased tickets to see two concerts in May: The Pixies and Death Cab for Cutie with Bright Eyes... so stoked!
I am, officially, no longer jetlagged... thank GOODNESS!
Seriously, going to bed between 7:30 and 9 every night, and waking up super early was not pleasant.
Anywhoodles, I'm going to attempt to reply to everyone's comments, now... but, I make no promises. I don't know how well this computer will deal with Disqus. We'll see!

still alive...
So, I made it back to Canada in one piece, for the most part.
I went to Gwangju on Saturday with some friends, and we spent the weekend partying and nursing hangovers. It was a great send off, I had a lot of fun.
It was a lotttt of traveling, that's for sure. Four hour bus ride to Incheon, three hours of waiting in the airport, twelve hour flight, two hours of waiting in Vancouver airport, and then my plane got delayed for two hours--while we were on the stupid plane--then an hour and a half flight to Edmonton, and then about two hours or so of driving to get home.
Needless to say, I've been really jetlagged this week.
Of course, I've also gone shopping for clothes and a cell phone and such... and then been going to bed at like eight at night. Because my brain now has me configured as an old woman.
Well, to end my time in Korea, I have come to the conclusion that there are officially no decent landlords in the country.
Actually, I doubt there are decent landlords anywhere in the world...
But, seriously, within the last few hours in the country, I got a phone call from my co-teacher, telling me that I had supposedly destroyed the floor in the apartment, and that the landlord was demanding payment.
A few days after I had been moved into this last place, my floor heating and hot water were finally working. So, I took the bathmat from under the desk and went to move it in front of the bathroom. When I moved the bathmat, I noticed that the floor had been ripped up by a desk chair or something like that, and that the damage had been covered by the mat. Because I'm an idiot, I didn't say anything about it.
Now, the landlord is claiming that in the seven nights I spent in that apartment, I ripped up the floor, and he's trying to charge me for replacing it.
I didn't even use the desk, I kepy my laptop on the desk chair by my bed so that I could watch TV. I basically didn't even use that side of the room.
I am incredibly pissed off.
They're trying to say that the room I was staying in was the former drama teacher's room, and that she didn't do anything to the floor, so it must have been me.
Well, I've been in the former drama teacher's room, and it was an entirely different room, the kitchen and bathroom were on opposite sides, and there was even a big window in her room, which my room did not have.
The former tenant fucked up the floor, refused to pay, the landlord covered it up, and now they're trying to get me to pay for it.
Clearly, fucking over the foreigner isn't a big deal in Korea.
Anyway, I'm trying to plan my classes for September, so, I'm going to head off now.
Just letting you all know that I made it here alive!
Toodles, all <3
It should also be noted that I am currently on my parents' farm in the land of dial up, so, it is incredibly difficult for me to read and comment on blogs... including my own. So, I shall be a bit behind until I move back into the city. Sorry, loves!
I am incredibly pissed off.

korea, the best of...
So, since I am leaving in three days (holy eff), and not sure if I will have internet, because I'll be in a hotel, I just thought I would do a post with all of my favourite pictures from my year here in Korea! Boring for you, easy for me! Fair warning, super duper image heavy.
I'm starting this off by saying that a group of my students almost shot me with BB guns today. They were playing in the park by my house and shooting at each other, and I had to go to the post office. In order to do so, I have to walk along the road between the two halves of the park, where they were having their mock war. I stopped short when one of the BB gun barrels popped up in front of my face. When he saw who I was he was all "oh my god, Tara teacher, so sorry!" and then I heard the whispered "Tara teacher!" going from kid to kid. They act like they've seen something mysterious whenever they see me. Anyway, I said hi to all of them and didn't get shot, thankfully.
Okay, so begins a year in review:
My after school class
Apricot blossoms
On Dolsan Island, near Hyangiram Temple
The Achievement Tree was not so tall, I guess it has not witnessed many achievements
The next few are from Hyangiram Temple
Dragon spit!
We only went to this bar because it had the same name as me, it was not as awesome as I had hoped it would be. It clearly did not live up to sharing my name
My walk to school
This was the live sea cucumber, it's the only shot of the live things that I've eaten. I've eaten a lot of things that were still alive here in Korea
I think these were speakers... or microphones... I'm not sure
We went to a fair at a fish processing plant
Wando beach
Campfire on the beachee
Oh, Korea, your shirts are hilarious
Dong rot is the worst kind of rot
Mosageum beachee
The second degree burns and three hospital visits that resulted from the above beach visit
Can you spot the reason why I took this picture:
We ordered three tall glasses of the Cherrycock. It was just carbonated cherry syrupy juice. Notice the well balanced meal on the table
Always with the umbrellas when it's sunny out
Blowing bubbles at night, we stood on the street and did this for a good hour... people loved it! Children and adults were all over it, they even came up to us to talk to us, and we let them blow bubbles, too
Mid city poppy field
Nightclub in Gwangju
Koosh ball shoes... for serious
Beach on Dolsan Island that I can never remember the name of
Scooter + sand = not effective
By my house
Some pictures from the Busan Aquarium
Dolsan bridge
Namsan Tower and looking out over Seoul
Suncheon Bay
The chemical plants
The bay at night
More Hyangiram
University above my school, and a kit stuck in a tree
All of the churches in Korea have neon crosses
Man made beach adventure

Sorry for the boring-ish post, and, hopefully I'll be able to write one last post before I leave Korea! If not, see you in Canada!
